To Worship God is one of the most important acts in Christian life.
It is vital for us to understand how to worship Him in the right way. First of all, what is worship?
It is an act of adoration. A person worshipping God gives thanks for everything that He has done. And, what is more, worship is a daily experience. It is a way of life. Every time I think of worship, the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her hair comes to my mind. She expressed her worship towards Him in this way. She knew she was a sinner, but nevertheless she did what she had in her heart. I think Jesus liked this original act of worship.
What does God look for in a person’s life? His greatest desire is to come into each human world, and possess it to the full. When He sees people who are thankful and grateful for anything, He sees worship. It is worship through attitude. It is an attitude of faith, hope and love. It is a trust. That trust is expressed through our deeds and thoughts, our actions. When we try to live in the way Jesus lived, as he walked here, on Earth, we worship His Name.
What about children? To Jesus, they are the best worshippers He has ever known. When the adults try to drive the children away, He himself states:
Let the children come to me, and do not keep them away, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (Luke 18:16)
I tend to think that children are the best worshippers. Maybe it’s like that, because they have not had the opportunity to taste sin. They are so pure, that sin could not attract them the way it does with us. They simply do not understand. Some parents would be tempted to tell me: “You think they are pure, because you haven’t seen my sons. They fight and fight twenty-four hours a day, and still that’s not enough for them!” I could advise that father to love his boys. They are a gift from God! If they fight today, how could you claim that it will be always the same? Boys are boys-they always fight. But one day they could be some of the country’s leaders that would help the nation rise up in a numeral and spiritual way.
Last, but not least, worship is the understanding of enjoying life to the fullest. How do we enjoy our lives? We do it by relying on the love God gives to us in so many ways. Christ died on the cross so that we could have abundant life. He made a divine exchange through it. If people all over the world knew that fact, they would be happier in the state they are, without being envious and jealous of the others’ successes and gains.
A real worshipper is someone who enjoys life every single day, adoring the King. He knows what he lives his life for. He doesn’t waste his time in senseless and meaningless things. He has plans and purposes he follows strictly, even if some obstacles happen. He never stops, never quits… never gives up! In this way he looks upon eternity and its values. As Paul says in his second letter to the Corinthians, that “our minds are not on the things which are seen, but on the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are for a time; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
